Honey, where’s the pizza ?

I am not a bleeding heart liberal but I do feel sorry for people
that are down and out.

In this economy it can happen to most of us.

I do believe in programs that ACUALLY try to get people back on their feet..but for the life of me I cannot imagine why so many downtrodden folks end up in our town.

Let’s face it.. It’s not for our wonderful employment opportunities or our terrific weather and somehow I don’t think they are going to enroll in any college.

If you are a frequent scanner listener, you know that many of our unscrupulous characters are from out of town ;
Most times, with no permanent address or job

Years ago they were called VAGRANTS.

I remember a show on Mayberry (many years ago) :

Called “Opie's Hobo Friend”

Opie becomes fascinated with David Browne,( Buddy Ebsen ) a vagrant hobo who uses his wits to live on the edge of the law. Andy arrested him for vagrancy and made him leave the town.

That was then .. this is now.
We now call them Homeless people.

In legal terminology, vagrancy refers to the offense of persons who are without visible means of support or domicile while able to work.

State laws and municipal ordinances punishing vagrancy often also cover loitering, associating with reputed
 criminals, prostitution, and drunkenness.

The punishment is usually a fine or several months in jail.
Instead of arresting vagrants, local officials often attempt to induce them to move on.

Vagrancy laws have come under constitutional attack,
 since being poor is not
a crime under the Constitution.

Thank you!

Guns, believed to have been taken from Monroe County gun club, found at home of Lamar Kevin Johnson.
State police at Wyoming and Fern Ridge investigating a burglary at a Monroe County gun club have recovered a stolen handgun and seized a large amount of illegal drugs from a Wilkes-Barre house Tuesday night.
Investigators were led to the house at 23 E. Beatty St. after the capture of Jerome Sharr, 20, who was apprehended following a pursuit in the Back Mountain and Wilkes-Barre areas on Dec. 30.
Arrest records link Sharr and David Toney, 19, of Hanover Township, to the burglary at American Sport Shooting Club near Brodheadsville on Dec. 29. Fourteen firearms were stolen from the club, police said.
After the alleged burglary in Monroe County, investigators claim Sharr and Toney arranged to meet Lamar Kevin Johnson, 30, in a motel room in Plains Township to sell stolen firearms.
Police searched Johnson’s residence on East Beatty Street and recovered two handguns stolen from the gun club, a third firearm, 27 packets of crack, 12 packets of powder cocaine, 35 ecstasy tablets and other contraband, according to charges filed.
Johnson was arraigned Wednesday in Wilkes-Barre Central Court on three counts each of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance, two counts of receiving stolen property and a single count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for lack of $250,000 bail.

Desensitized ?

It might be just me…

But it seems that crimes that are occurring
around the area not  receiving as much
attention as they would have in the past.

Have we become desensitized to many things that once
would have been a shock to society  because all
of these things are more prevalent ?

Are we really becoming desensitized to crime or
 just becoming indifferent?

HOME INVASIONS, BURGLARIES, MUGGINGS, and the like
many times appear only as a few lines in the local papers.

Where is the concern?
Where is the outrage?

Victims  suffer from not only the loss of materials items but the loss of security in their homes, and neighborhoods.

For years to come, Victims are left with feelings of fear,
anxiety, depression, panic, nausea and sleeplessness.

They feel helpless and violated during or by the crime.

Thankfully there is help…

 From Times Leader:

HANOVER TWP. – A woman reported she was stopped by a man impersonating a police officer on South Main Street on Dec. 23. She said the man was operating a tan-colored vehicle with a “police” sticker on its bumper and flashed blue lights for her to stop near the Hanover Industrial Park.
She said the man asked her several questions before leaving the area. He was wearing a yellow ski jacket and a hat with “police” on the front.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Hanover Township police at 825-1254.

From the Citizen’s Voice:

Plains Twp. man arrested in attempted break-in
Police arrested a drunken man Monday for trying to break into a house in Wilkes-Barre, frightening the homeowner who held the lock shut on the other side of the door.

Authorities charged Donald Simonson, 36, of 62 Tamarac Road, Plains Township, with attempted criminal trespassing, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.
Officers were called to 45 St. Clair St. around 6:15 p.m. for an intruder trying to get inside. Emergency dispatchers told responding officers the resident was holding the lock shut to keep the suspect outside.
When police arrived, Simonson was holding the front storm door open and attempted to gain entry into the home, police said.

Police ordered Simonson to cease his actions, and he eventually complied.
Investigators immediately recognized Simonson from previous incidents. They determined he exhibited signs of intoxication.
The resident, Patricia Kwiatkowski, was "visibly upset and barely able to speak" following the incident, police said.

Kwiatkowski said she did not know Simonson.
Simonson was charged and jailed in the Luzerne County Correctional Facility in lieu of $2,000 bail.

Donald Simonson has an extensive criminal history …
and 11 cases including this one are still ACTIVE.
